Medicaid funds that have been budgeted for institutional services can now be used for home and community based services. The demonstration also contains a nursing facility transition (NFT) program that identifies consumers in institutions who wish to transition to the community and helps them do so.
Adult day service programs are part of the solution and a valuable means to achieve the MFP program goals. This is an opportunity for adult services to tap into funds from MFP grants in order to help Medicare recipients.
To date, CMS has awarded almost $1.7 billion in grants to 30 States to help Medicaid consumers in nursing facilities and other institutions to move to community settings using flexible financing arrangements. With these funds, States propose to transition almost 38,000 individuals out of institutional settings over the five-year demonstration period.
Join Adult Day Service Letter and the National Adult Day Services Association for “Money Follows the Person Initiatives: How Adult Day Services Can Tap Into Existing Medicaid Funds,” that took place in July 2008. Hear from the CMS about the details of the Money Follows to Person Initiatives and how adult day services can benefit.
