Joel Bennett, PhD, (University of Texas at Austin, 1985), CWP, is President of Organizational Wellness & Learning Systems (OWLS), a consulting firm that specializes in promoting organizational health and employee well-being. Dr. Bennett first delivered stress management to workplaces in 1984 and is primary developer of several evidence-based workplace prevention programs including "Team Awareness," the first workplace program recognized in 2002 by the US Dept. of Health as effective in preventing employee substance abuse and is in the National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP). Team Awareness is now the flagship prevention program for the U.S. National Guard and has been adapted for various settings including in municipalities, for restaurant workers, electricians, the Youth Corp, ex-offenders, Native American/tribal workers and small businesses. Through this program, various decision-support tools, the Small Business Wellness Initiative, and programs for healthy leadership, OWLS has served over 10,000 employees across the United States. Through their grant-writing efforts, OWLS has received over $3 million in funding to develop and test wellness programs in work settings.

In 2008, Dr. Bennett received the “Service and Leadership Award” from the National Wellness Institute and he has served on advisory boards for Magellan Behavioral Health Care; the Management, Spirituality & Religion Division of the Academy of Management; and the International Conference on "Work, Stress, and Health" co-sponsored by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. He has consulted for federal and local government, as well as privately held and military organizations. He is a peer reviewer for scientific journals in the field of organizational health and has published or interviewed for peer-reviewed science journals, trade business journals, and is author/co-author of three books. Dr. Bennett enjoys public speaking on a wide range of health and wellness topics that help to destigmatize help-seeking, encourage emotional health, and promote healthy work cultures.
