Alfred Lewis is founder and President of the Disease Management Purchasing Consortium International, Inc. (DMPC--www.Dismgmt.com) DMPC is by far the leading consultant/procurement broker in the field of disease management. In December 2004, he was designated #1 in Managed Healthcare Executive's overall list of the 25 Most Influential People in disease management. 

In total, programs initiated by DMPC member payors account for approximately 50% of all Americans enrolled in full-risk outsourced disease management programs today, and roughly 70% of all competitive bids by dollar volume. The 85 current DMPC members cover 80-million lives. DMPC has been the subject of a cover story in Managed Healthcare Executive, and has been profiled in Demand and Disease Management, Healthcare Benchmarking, Healthplan, HealthLeaders, and Employee Benefit News.

He also has written three Spectrum White Papers, two books published by Decision Resources, articles in the Journal of Healthcare Quality, Disease Management Journal, The Journal of Disease Management and Health Outcomes, Employee Benefit Plan Review, and Healthcare Innovations. He has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Consumer Reports, Forbes, US News and World Report and other major publications. His most recent article, in Disease Management Journal, is the only peer-reviewed article on savings through disease management in Medicaid. 

He is founder and past president of the Disease Management Association of America (www.DMAA.org) , the official industry association. He was voted Best Speaker and Most Influential person in a poll by Computer Sciences Corp., and is one of only two two-time winners (1999, 2004) of the DMAA's Karen Coughlin Award for Outstanding Achievement in Disease Management. 

In 2002, The Disease Management Association of America created the Alfred B. Lewis Presidents Award and presented it to Tom Scully, Director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Rep. Nancy Johnson (R.-Connecticut) won in 2003, while HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson won in 2004. 

Al holds undergraduate and law degrees from Harvard University, phi beta kappa and holds a Visiting Scholar appointment at the Heller School for Social Policy, Brandeis University.
