DESCRIPTION:
This conference took place on September
25, 2002, but you may order the CD recording
of it.
The April 14, 2003 HIPAA deadline is right around the corner. And, your organization's system-wide policies and procedures dealing with PHI under HIPAA are required under the law. You and your HIPAA team members who are responsible for crafting your P & Ps can now get help with policy-procedure specific training.
There are 24 important policies or procedures that must be completed for your organization to come into compliance with HIPAA implementation requirements.
Under § 164.530, the regulation's administrative requirements, a "covered entity must implement policies and procedures with respect to protected health information that are designed to comply with the standards, implementation specifications, or other requirements" of the HIPAA regulations.
"The policies and procedures must be reasonably designed, taking into account the size of and the type of activities that relate to protected health information undertaken by the covered entity, to ensure such compliance," the rules state.
Policies and procedures surrounding the patient privacy and confidentiality and information security are the foundation of your organization's program of HIPAA implementation and compliance.
To help insure that your organization is on track to meet the policy and procedure requirements by April, take advantage of "Developing Your Organization's HIPAA Policies and Procedures Under the Final HIPAA Rules," a management-level educational program on CD-ROM. The program includes presentations by HIPAA experts, and accompanying slides.
Even if you are reasonably confident that your organization's policies and procedures are now in or will be compliant with the regulation's requirements, it may take good business sense to have members of your HIPAA task force committee or management staff listen in to make sure your P&P's are consistent with HIPAA mandates.
This special program is ideal for your committee to use as part of your ongoing task completion plan.
