John Lane Vice President, Crisis and Security Consulting Control Risks North America

John Lane serves as Vice President, Crisis and Security Consulting department for Control Risks North America. Based in Los Angeles, John focuses on the issues of workplace violence within the corporate environment, specializing in threat assessment, case management, the creation of prevention programs and response. He has worked with numerous clients across North America , including some of the most well known Fortune 500 companies. 

John also specializes in providing assessment/management to clients who are inappropriately pursued.Clients include entertainment celebrities, professional athletes, and other public figures.

John’s knowledge base and case experience has been developed over the last seventeen years both in the private and public sectors.Before joining Control Risks, John was a Partner in a threat assessment company based in During his ten years in the private sector John consulted with a variety of corporations, providing risk assessment, case management, and training relative to the issue of workplace violence.He also provided consultation to a variety of public figures who found themselves the object of inappropriate pursuit.

John’s experience is based on a successful first career in the Los Angeles Police Department.nJohn was a member of the LAPD where he served for 25 years, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1997.During his last seven years with the LAPD he developed their Threat Management Unit which gained international recognition for its management of aggravated stalking cases.During his tenure, John was considered the foremost law enforcement expert in the field of stalking.His unit also assisted in the management of aggravated workplace violence cases involving city employees.He participated in the Resource Group that developed the city of Los Angeles workplace violence policy.

John founded the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP) and has served as both the President of the Los Angeles Chapter and the National Board of Directors. Created in 1992, ATAP has united both public and private sector professionals who are dedicated to the enhancement of knowledge and service rendered to those who have found themselves the target of threat and/or harassment.

John holds a Masters Degree from the University of Southern California in Public Administration.
