The data used to compile Inside IPAs: An Analysis of Growth Trends, Services and Managed Care Contracts was mined from the first and second editions of MCIC's "National Directory of Physician Organizations." The second edition contains more than 1,800 physician groups and networks representing more than 2.2 million physicians.
The data used in this analysis was verified by MCIC's research staff through mail, fax and telephone interviews and where possible, data was collected and verified directly by the organization's administrative office.
While data on more than 970 IPAs is included in the directory, the analyses drawn in the IPA report are based solely on those IPAs that provided the necessary data for each particular topic.
The full copy of Inside IPAs examines IPA trends on national and/or regional levels for areas such as:
- the number of physicians per IPA
- types of services offered
- prevalence of physician specialties
- profit status
- relationships with management services organizations
- plans for expansion
- managed care contracts
- negotiations with MCOs
- revenue sources
In addition to the analyses, the report also includes charts and graphs illustrating MCIC's findings.
